It was 55 years ago today, in Montgomery, Alabama, that Rosa Parks refused to give up her bus seat for a white passenger. Rosa Parks was an African American civil rights activist and her actions that day spurred the Montgomery Bus Boycott led by Martin Luther King, Jr., and her defiance became a symbol of the modern Civil Rights Movement.
